A new regulation on wildlife protection for Beijing was passed in June 2020. It is the most stringent local law on wildlife protection in Beijing's history and will provide a stronger legal guarantee for the city's wildlife protection. 

According to the new regulation, hunting, trading, transporting and eating wild animals, and destroying their habitats is prohibited. Furthermore, citizens are encouraged to participate in wildlife protection activities through donations or volunteering. The regulation includes the protection of land with important ecological, scientific and social values and strengthens the protection of wildlife habitats. 

In addition, the new regulation foresees the development of a database on wild animals and their habitats. Finally, April is set as the Wild Animal Protection Awareness Month in Beijing, and the third week of April as the Bird Protection Week.
